Nouie's family has to sadly rehome her due to illness. We have included a free obedience coupon to Canine Academy as part of Nouie's adoption, and she has a reduced adoption fee if we find the right family for her placement. Nouie has been in our rescue for a long time and we would really like her to go to a loving family who is committed to giving her the best life possible. Nouie has a lot of special things to offer a new family, please don't let her dark color scare you away, she glimmers in the sunshine and is adoring to her people.
Nouie is the ultimate people dog! She loves everyone and loves being loved by them. At 78 lbs. she wants to be a lap dog, but will settle for laying on the floor with her head on your foot. She knows she can't come up on the couch or bed without being invited and is very good about the rules. But if you do invite her up to sit with you, she makes sure at least part of her is touching her human. Her favorite situation is what we call a "Nouie Sandwich", which is when Nouie wedges herself between 2 people on the loveseat - her idea of Heaven!
She gets very excited when friends come over, but is working very hard at not jumping on them - she practically twists herself into knots trying to stay down & still get some attention at the same time. She also adores riding in the car, playing catch and - most of all - long walks and the occasional run. To see her bounding over the fields in winter like a deer is a profoundly beautiful sight. She is very strong & fast but always stays close to her people (unless distracted by squirrels, birds or other dogs) and comes back when you whistle. Of course, in the city, she has to be kept on leash and walks well with the Halti. We've been working on keeping calm when encountering other dogs on the leash, which still upsets her a lot, but she's making progress with that. She gets along well with her cats, our grandchildren and most other children who have been taught how to respect animals - with other small children, she should be supervised. She has 2 male dog friends with whom she has play dates - but is very defensive of her house & yard. She'll bark when someone comes to the door, but will be quiet & lie down when you give her the command. She's become very good about being home alone with the run of the house ( hates crates)if we give her a treat before we go out. She's the most loyal, devoted, loving dog anyone could ever want, but she needs exercise, discipline and consistency - and more exercise.
Nouie has been moved into one of our foster homes because her mom's health was deteriorating. (that was the reason they had to give her up). Nouie has been doing great in her new foster home. She is friends with the two toy fox terriers that live there, and she is perfect with the cats. Nouie is getting a good jog every morning so that helps :)
Nouie will need to be adopted to a family with a completely fenced yard (no electric fences, and no gaps in the fences). She will need daily exercise, so a jogger or runner would be great, but someone who walks daily (walks religiously, actually) would be okay, too. If Nouie gets bored, she becomes anxious. A tired dog is a good dog.
Nouie will not be adopted to a home with small children, due to her size. She could easily knock them over. Older, respectable-child households may apply.
Please considering adopting Nouie today, and give her a life of love and exercise. =) She's a wonderful dog looking for that perfect family home.
Nouie is spayed, heartworm negative and is current on heartworm preventative and advantix. She has her rabies and vaccinations. She has been on Chloripramine for anxiety and may need it again to help her adjust to a new home.
