We named this little puppy Hero, because the volunteers in our rescue are heroes for saving him. Hero was posted on several different pet sections on craigslist, as a free pitbull puppy, available to the very first person who would "show up" and get him. No screening process, no background checks, who really cares, just "come and take this puppy, whoever you shall be". (pitbull fighters are very good at passing themselves off as caring individuals willing/able to give your pit a good home if you are unable to screen properly) We were so worried about his scared little face (see pictures) that our volunteers volunteered to drive the 2.5 hours on a cold, windy, wintery Saturday night to go and be the very first people to "show" and get this free puppy. So, we beat out the dog fighters, the spontanious 16 year olds, and the people who would eventually tie this little guy to the tree out back on the cold February nights with nothing but a dog house for shelter (if that).
Hero is safe in our rescue. He will be vetted, he will be vaccinated, he will be wormed, he will be neutered. He will not be used for dog fighting nor bait. He will not add to the pitbull population. He will be loved, cared for, sheltered and walked. He will sleep on a cozy bed at night, and watch t.v. with his family. He will have dog toys and chew bones and he will have a name. His name is Hero.
Now, Hero has a personality. If you are reading this, you probably want to know more about him, and are interested in adopting him :) Yay for that! Because Hero is deserving of you!
Hero is new to our rescue, so we are still getting to know him, and after all, he is a puppy, so his personality is still emerging, but we can tell you that he is lovable, snuggly, and gets along super well with all the resident dogs he is being fostered with. He loves children and cats, and we are working on housetraining with this gentle fella. We are working on leash walking skills and he is learning the sit command. He is very intelligent (as the pit breed is) and we think he is on his way to make a super duper THERAPY DOG CANDIDATE!
Hero's adoption fee includes his neutering, vaccinations, rabies, microchip, worming, flea treatment, vetting folder, free first vet visit to a vet of your choice, and 30 days of pet health insurance. He also comes with a leash and collar.
