About Jazmine

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 2 Years 7 Months (best estimate)
  • Microchipped: Yes
  • Housetrained: Yes
  • Reaction to New People: Cautious
Please allow us to introduce the sweet girl with soulful eyes. Jazmine just has a way when she looks at you that you can tell she has an old soul and is searching for that perfect someone to share her wisdom with. She is really a loving, sweet natured dog who isn't out to harm anyone.

Jazmine is an owner surrender who found herself in a local shelter and very frightened. She is a gentle dog who we believe should be given a second chance. She is unsure of herself, and therefore, she is in one of our best foster homes who is working diligently to build up her confidence in new situations. The great thing about sweet Jazmine is that she doesn't have a dominant bone in her body, and when she is frightened in a new situation, she looks to her people for reassurance and what to do next. Her bond is very tight with her people, and when I first met her, I let her approach me (she thought I was going to scold her) and within just moments, she was my best friend once she knew I wasn't going to harm her. She really bonded with me in just the few minutes we spent together and she would come back to me for reassurance and belly rubs and I was a complete stranger! But she is insecure... and her foster parents are building up her confidence daily by taking her to new places and meeting new people and new dogs and smelling new things. She is finally getting to know what it means to be a dog.

Jazmine is being fostered with two dogs right now, and she was a little afraid of them at first meeting, but she instantly took the submissive role. Like I said- she doesn't have a dominant bone in her body, she is just used to being scolded and was never socialized in her tender years. She will never be scolded again! Only positive things for this girl....

Jazmine is already housetrained, knows the sit and down command, and gives paw.

What is Jazmine looking for in her new family? She will be adopted to only a no-child household, only because those little critters move too quickly for her and will frighten her. We would prefer her to go to a fenced yard, you should see her zoom around her yard that she is in, she is so funny to watch and you can just see the happiness in her face when she does so! She will need a quieter, gentle person who is willing to be sweet to her, let her sleep in their bed at night, and give her lots of treats and positive rewards.  Be prepared for a best friend and a tight bond forever with this girl. We are including a coupon for a free obedience class in with her adoption fee, for Canine Academy in Clarence on Main Street. This will help build her confidence and will help her new people be better dog people :)

Updates from her foster parents:

Jazmine is truly a special dog and she deserves a special home! Here is some information about Jazmine as well as what she is looking for in her forever family...

When you first meet Jazmine, she's timid. The way to make her feel at ease is to basically pretend she's not there! If you avoid looking at her, talking to her, reaching for her, etc., she will become curious and approach you for a sniff. After that, she readily warms up to new people and develops trust quickly. Once you have spent a few moments with Jazmine and demonstrated to her that you mean no harm, she is a total sweetheart - very affectionate and loving.

Jazmine really enjoys being outdoors, both playing in the yard and going for long walks. You'll see her best golden retriever smile when she's outside! This is a dream dog - quiet, calm, and content in the house, but loves to let loose when its time to play. She is a big fan of bones, treats, and all kinds of toys and she is playing beautifully with our 1 and a half year old male mixed-breed dog. By the way, her attitude toward other dogs seems to be consistent with her approach to people. As soon as she feels safe, she is highly social, but it takes her some time to warm up.

Jazmine came to us shy and scared but she is rapidly gaining confidence. We hope that her adoptor will continue the process of gently exposing her to new places, people, and things!

There is no perfect dog, (although Jazmine comes close) so here are a few things that are less than perfect about this dog:

1) Jazmine is a brazen beggar for people food! Shocking, we know! However, rest assured she will NOT be encouraged in this pursuit whatsoever while she lives with us! This is a bad habit that is easy to extinguish with consistency, and she has already made good progress in this area.

2) Jazmine drinks a LOT of water and has to pee often. It would be great if she could go to a home with the possibility of letting her out to potty every couple of hours. However, if crated and not drinking water, Jazmine is fine. She is potty trained and does not want to "go" in the house, but she does need to relieve herself often and will subtly let you know when.

Now for just a few more of her better points:

1) She's a good little eater and has ZERO food aggression.

2) She's pretty good on-leash and improving with each walk.

3) Not a jumper or a barker!

4) She is a great cuddler.

5) Travels well - enjoys car rides and behaves perfectly in the vehicle.

6) Relaxed and content in her crate.

7) She's smart as a whip and eager to learn!

Whoever adopts this gorgeous girl will have a loyal friend for life. Jazmine is looking forward to meeting her forever-family... could that be you?
